Okay, another pair of photos I'd like some comparison comments on. These two are not quite so similar as the other two, but are still very similar.
I love this photo because you can clearly see Mandy with her camera, waiting to shoot the sunset. CJ is a little tired looking, but probably content. Mom's also watching. And Grandma is chewing on her nail, completely mesmerized by what she's seeing.
But, what about what's around them? It's so tightly focused. Would it be better if we could see more? We'll never be able to see what they're looking at (most likely).
I do think I like this one better than tomorrow's, but it's hard to say.
I like the composition quite a bit because of the mesmerized expressions of them all. I'd like to see a sharper focus and perhaps also to level that hand-rail a little, which is now sloping upwards. What else: well, if it were me I might try to crop the top until just above their heads and then crop the left side until maybe 1 1/2 inches behind the woman in the black shirt. This would tighten it even more, and yet still leave that wide open expanse on the right side to make clear what they're seeing. Just a thought, but please ignore if you disagree. It's all very subjective (which is what makes it fun).

@GJC: I hope you look at tomorrow's as well, because much of what you're commenting on here is changed there (though by my moving, not by cropping).
However, I do agree with a lot of what you're saying. I do wish I'd gotten that handrail "flat", for example.
