This is the second of a pair of photos I wanted to compare.
In this, Mandy and Grandma still have clear facial expressions, but some detail is definitely lost. I know Mandy's holding her camera, but that's because of the previous photo. In this one, all that's clear is that she's clutching something.
However, the whole photo seems a bit more dramatic, because now the suggestion of the sunset they're watching comes in. Still, I kind of like the other one better. I think, though, this one might be objectively better, and I like yesterday's better because I know the people involved.
Just my thought but, I think this is better than the first. The sky is more relevant here because you can see cloud formations, whereas in the last one it was just white. The details in the mountains are better as well. I think you're right that some of the detail is lost in the expressions, but the gestures are clear enough I think. But these are just my thoughts.

@GJC: I think you're correct about which is a better shot, honestly. I do like in this one how suddenly it's clear what the four of them are looking at. I am just unsure at the loss of facial detail.
I feel this one is better than the previous one because with the added foliage and background, as a viewer I am still anticipating to see what everyone is so engrossed in. i feel as though the mystery is worth the "thing" sunset in this case. The facial future loss is take over by the background and the body language. Its the subtleties that win over.

@Ras: Thanks so much for your input. I kind of thought it was that extra which made this photo objectively better than the previous one, but I'm definitely still learning.
